1. A Welcome from Maya

You Belong Here

A welcome from Maya Chen

“I wanted a place where neighbors felt known. Today, our three shops share that promise. You do not need coffee experience to belong here. Ask questions, practice with your trainer, and put safety before speed.”

Maya Chen opened Brightside Coffee Co. in 2018. She wanted more than a place to buy coffee. She wanted neighbors to feel noticed and welcome. That purpose still guides our three shops. A friendly hello, careful listening, and a patient answer help make it real.

You are not expected to know every drink or piece of equipment on your first day. You are expected to ask when you are unsure. A busy line does not change that. Learning a task safely matters more than doing it quickly.

Your buddy: your first three shifts

Every new hire has a buddy for the first three shifts. Your buddy shows you routine tasks, explains each step, and stays with you while you practice. Ask them to repeat a demonstration or watch you try. You do not have to pretend you understand.

Your shift lead: every shift

A shift lead is available on every shift. They assign stations, help with immediate questions, and handle problems. If your buddy is busy or you feel unsafe, ask the lead before continuing. They can arrange guided practice or give you a task you already know.

Tip

At your first shift, ask, “Who is my buddy, and who is leading today?” When you need help, name the task: “I have not learned this yet. Can you show me and watch me practice?”
